Heswall FC - stuttering start to the season, but a time for cool heads

After a complete overhaul of the management team in the summer and rebuilding our entire First Team squad, we were confident of continuing to establish ourselves in the First Division this year, but early results just haven't gone our way.

On the brighter side, performances have been improving every week. With this in mind, our lads were up for it on Saturday as we welcomed Capenhurst Villa to Gayton Park.

In what was a fairly even game throughout, it was once again fine margins that cost us as Cape took their chance to go one up early in the second half. Heswall created a few decent chances, as did Cape, and they were able to close the game out. This was a sixth defeat in seven games for the Yellows.

There will be no panic at Gayton Park. We believe firmly in how we are doing things and remain confident that results will come. The players are working hard and showing maturity beyond their years as we look to get the season up and running. Best of luck to Cape Villa, a top club.

Our Reserves travelled to South Liverpool Thirds looking for their first win of the season and built on recent, steady improvement, going 2–0 up in the first half. Goals came from Big Birdy Aaron Baird and Jordan Chwalko.

South improved massively in the second half and took control of the game with three goals. They looked all set to take the points, but our boys showed their battling spirit and netted a late equaliser through Jack Gibson. This was a big step forward for the team, showing they can go to these places and really compete. They are a good group, combining youth and experience, and still have plenty to play for.

Heswall FC would like to extend an open invitation to all those in our area to come along and get behind your local club. Our doors are always open to new supporters, and to those who may have been with us before.

The bar is always open for matches so please head down to Gayton Park and be part of our grassroots football story.

Our next game is on Saturday 10th September when our First Team welcomes Maghull FC. Kick off is at 3pm.

Hope to see you there...
