The body of a full term baby boy discovered on Brackenwood golf course in Bebington may have been there for several weeks prior to being found.

Two dog walkers came across the boy's remains at about 4.25pm on Friday afternoon.

But Merseyside Police has revealed the baby could have been left there as long as three weeks ago.

A post mortem was carried out today but did not identify a cause of death.

Today Detective Chief Superintendent Lee Turner asked the parents to make themselves known.

He told ITV News: "Obviously we are desperate to speak to mum or dad, if they would come forward.

"Or, if there are members of a family who think something's a little bit strange, someone's acting oddly and their demeanour has changed, recently within the last four or five weeks, something that has just alerted your suspicions to a certain extent - even if that turns out not to be related to this incident, we are keen to speak with anyone.

"If that individual doesn't necessarily want to speak to the police direct, they can go to Crimestoppers, give the details, and we will manage that as sensitively as we possibly can."
