Huge congratulations go to Freya Anderson from Upton who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics a week ago today.

The former St Joseph's Primary and Upton Hall Convent pupil won her medal as part of Team GB's triumphant 4 x 100m mixed medley relay team.

Freya's swimming journey to Tokyo was via Caldy Swimming Club, Hoylake Pool and Wirral Metro Swim Club at Europa Pools in Birkenhead.

Her Olympic gold joins a clutch of other awards, including World Junior Champion, four relay medals at the 2018 European Championships, golds in the 100m and 200m freestyle at the 2019 European Short Course Championships, and five golds at the 2021 European Championships in Budapest.

Freya said, "I learnt to swim from a young age and loved it. I joined swim clubs in Wirral, where coaches and volunteers helped develop my swimming which gave me confidence.

She added, "You should always dream big and never give up because anything is possible."
