Plans for an ambitious new 'fan park' at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park ground have been given a huge boost.
In May, Ben Harrison, chairman of the Tranmere Rovers Trust, said the structure would cost between £1.5m and £2m and contain a micro brewery among its attractions, after the club reached an agreement in principle with the brewer German Kraft.
Since then, the League 2 club has declared the cost of the fan park to be £1.6m and has managed to get £1.3m together for the project.
To get the remaining £350,000 the club's trust has set up a crowdfunding campaign.
Supporters have been chipping in, with incentives such as having your name printed on a wall plaque inside the fan park offered.
At the time of publication, 1,127 supporters had contributed to the crowdfunding initiative.
Thanks to that support, the campaign has now hit its massive £1.6m target.
Speaking today, Mr Harrison said: "We are delighted we have reached our target and would like to say a great big thank you to all the fans who have contributed.
"Every donation, however small or large, is massively appreciated.
"Our partnership with Mark and Nicola Palios [the club's owners] is one of real strength and just shows that if club owners and fans work together with the same goal what can be achieved.
"Our fans deserve the best and we will make sure that this project does that."
Rovers' fan park could completely change the match day experience for fans of the Wirral-based club.
The proposed new venue will have capacity for 800 people inside and 400 outside.
As well as being used on match days, the fan park will be used during the week as a cafe, lunch and evening venue and bar, offering a wide range of food.
Organisers plan to host weddings, conferences, award dinners and a variety of different events throughout the year.
However, the club also sees the fan park as a venue people can pop into for a coffee or a beer, making it a good place to socialise with friends and family.
If the plan is approved by Wirral Council, work is expected to start as soon as November, with the site opening in early 2022.
