Heswall's Silk Road owners given permission to create a new bar...just down the road

A late night bar could be built in Heswall, despite complaints of fighting, shouting and people urinating in private gardens.

The company Shucos Limited had its plan to create a cafe/bar at 172 Telegraph Road approved by Wirral Council's Licensing Panel today.

Originally, the applicants had wanted to open between 9am and 1am every night of the week.

But this was reduced by the panel to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays only, with the premises to close by midnight throughout the rest of the week.

But Stuart Moore, who lives nearby, told the panel that two shop windows in the area had been smashed late at night and that people had been known to urinate in his garden.

Mr Moore said he had also seen fighting outside numerous times and was regularly woken up between 2am and 4am by "drunkards".

He wanted the bar to close by midnight each night.

Fellow resident Jean Moore said the truth was that she was not getting any sleep at weekends due to the late bars currently in Heswall.

But Chris Williams, from Shucos Limited, said his business would not be like those that were causing problems in the area.

Mr Williams, who also runs the restaurant Silk Road which is based a few doors down the road, said the new bar, which did not yet have a name, would serve food and light beers until 9pm in its downstairs area.

Its upstairs area would be catered to private parties, such as small wedding groups, late into the evening. This is why he wanted the late licence.

Mr Williams added that the new cafe/bar would not be for younger people, but would instead cater to people who had eaten in the evening and wanted somewhere else to go for an hour or two after their meal.
