More roads in Wirral are set to have their speed limits reduced to 20mph, after a meeting last night pushed for plans to be developed more quickly.

In March, Wirral Council's Environment and Transport Committee voted for a motion which said speed limits in "all areas that are predominantly residential, retail, or educational" could be reduced to 20mph.

Standardised charges for parking in council-operated public car parks and parking spaces come into effect from this week.

The changes mean that from today, Monday 6th September, the same tariff will apply to all council-run car parks and on-street parking spaces right across the borough. Previously rates differed from location to location.

As we enjoy the last embers of summer, a sunny Saturday afternoon in Heswall brought local rivals Poulton Vics Reserves to face our resurgent Reserve team in the West Cheshire League, while our First Team travelled to Face Chester and Wirral League team Hoole Rovers in the prestigious Cheshire Amateur Cup.

Our quest to go one better than we did two years ago when we were cruelly denied the chance to compete in the final, started with a resounding victory for the Firsts as we ran out 5 – 1 winners with goals from last season's top marksman Joe Ford, Matty Morris who hit a brace and has started the season with a flurry of goals, an own goal, and a strike from young Shay Roberts who has made a seamless step into first division football.

Under ARAP (Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy), the UK is taking in Afghan interpreters and other personnel who collaborated with British forces in Afghanistan who are assessed to be under serious threat to life.
