Some of the boats abandoned at Meols

Owners of boats and other items at Meols Parade are being encouraged to come forward and claim them as Wirral Council prepares to make safety improvements to the area - which won't be the boats' final resting place.

More than 30, mostly unused boats, dinghies and other marine related items have been at Meols Parade for a number of years and, in an attempt to ensure resident safety, improve the surrounding area and reinstate the car park, the boats and other items now need to be removed.

Making a modern television drama is as secretive a business as the most ingenious espionage, so there isn't much to be seen or heard at the secure location shoot for The Ipcress File taking place at the Royal British Legion until Friday.

All that could be seen were security guards and beyond them crew and kit vans, and all that could be heard was the fact that the Legion building is doubling as 'the base'.

Please note that if you need to go over the water via the Queensway Tunnel, better known as the Birkenhead Tunnel, a programme of essential maintenance works will bring two closures, one short, one long, to all traffic during February, with more to come next month.

The Tunnel will be out of action between 2100 tonight and 0630 tomorrow morning.
