Yesterday was Wirral District FA Cup competitions day, and Heswall FC's three teams kicked off their campaigns in their respective competitions.

The First Team travelled to Ashville in the Senior Cup and, after going a goal down in the first half, Heswall rallied with two second half goals from Jack Darlington and Paul Lindfield.

The game ended 1-2, a well deserved victory for Heswall against a side that plays in a division above .

Vauxhall Motors await Heswall in the next round, to be played at the end of the month.

Our Reserve Team was indebted to a brilliant hat-trick by Jason Bull in a 3-0 away win at Neston Nomads Reserves.

The Reserves remain unbeaten and sit top of the league in Division 3, and are now looking forward to facing Poulton Royal Reserves in the next round.

In the Junior Cup our Under-18 Youth Team suffered a cruel defeat on penalties to Higher Bebington Kelma Vets, after a tightly fought 0-0 draw with few chances. Congratulations to our visitors who held their nerve to progress to the next round in the Junior Cup.

On Saturday The First Team welcomes Bootle St Edmunds to Gayton Park. They remain unbeaten and sit comfortably at the top of the table, but we are confident we will rise to the challenge and put an end to their winning ways.

The Reserves travel to Runcorn Sports while our Youth face Bootle FC. We are hoping for the elusive three win Saturday which we have yet to achieve this season.

It was great to see grassroots football being played again, but not without its challenges...

We still have guidelines to adhere to in the interest of public safety and the safety of those involved with our club.

Which means we have had to adapt our pre-match approach with lads changing outside, which was interesting in the Bank Holiday wind! We look forward to getting back into the changing rooms after April 12th as per the government roadmap.

The players are delighted to be back on the pitch together, the buzz of being out with your teammates, on the pitch making tackles, getting the ball at their feet and scoring goals.

It's all been a great relief, and when we meet Neston Nomads on April 13th our lads will be keen to celebrate a victory with a well deserved beer together - as we can open up the bar to serve drinks to be consumed outdoors.

Cheers!
