Heswall FC midweek round-up: 2 out of 3 ain't bad - and a call for help from any physio out there

The latest round of midweek games brought victories for our adult sides.

Heswall's First Team notched up a comfortable win away to Ashville Reserves, thanks to goals from in-form Joe Ford and Jason Bull.

Joe kept up his recent superb scoring record, taking his tally to eight since the return in March. 'Bully' has recently made the step up from the Reserves where he had been scoring freely, and bagged his first goal for the First Team this season.

The link between our First and Reserve teams is vital to success at Heswall FC. The pathway from Youth to Reserve and First Team football is so important to the development of players and the future of the club as it encourages competition for a place in these teams and prevents players leaving the game.

Our Reserve Team faced Ellesmere Port Town Reserves at Gayton Park on Tuesday evening, running out comfortable 4–0 winners with goals from Dan O'Halloran; Jake Byrne - a poacher's strike after skipper Nathan Johnston hit the bar with a blistering free kick; Sam Cafferkey; and Kieran Donoghue with a worldy strike.

The game was delayed for ten minutes in the first half for an injury to an Ellesmere Port player who had landed awkwardly while trying to prevent a goal. He couldn't continue, but thankfully, after going off, he recovered and seemed to be well by the end of the game.

We appreciate that injuries occur in football but they're never nice to see, and we take our responsibility for player welfare very seriously. Our coaches are all first aid trained and we have a defibrillator on site for use in a cardiac emergency.

However, we would really like to bring in a physio to work with our players on Match days, and to treat and advise on injuries. If anyone would like to kindly offer their expertise to Heswall FC then please contact me, Robbie Matthews, on [email protected].

On Wednesday night our Youth Team faced South Liverpool FC Youth. They gave an excellent performance which Heswall couldn't match and we went down 4–1.

South Liverpool as a club are on the brink of promotion to the North West Counties League and for a number of years have attracted some of the very best players around, so it's always a major challenge against them.

Our Youth lads have put in some sterling performances lately and are dragging themselves through games carrying a number of injuries. We are so proud of their efforts and how they've performed and carried themselves this season, and we really look forward to them stepping up into adult football next season.

This weekend brings Litherland Remyca Development to Gayton Park to face our First Team in a huge game as we push to get over the line in the race for promotion.

The Youth Team has a well-deserved weekend off.

Bank Holiday Monday brings cup action in the Wirral District FA Competitions as the First Team travels to Vauxhall Motors to face their Reserves in the Senior Cup, while our Reserves face Poulton Royal Reserves at Gayton Park. Both games kick off at 3pm.
