Heswall FC: a round-up of last weekend's action

With our First Team bizarrely having the weekend off again, it was another big game for our Reserves as South Liverpool 3rd were the visitors to Gayton Park.

With a couple of First Team players in the line up to get some minutes before the run in, and First Team gaffer Andy Cass on the bench, we were confident of victory.

We started well and put pressure on South without creating too much. After both sides struggled to fashion clear cut chances we went in at half time goalless.

Midway through the second half we deservedly took the lead when Jack Darlington, back playing after a long layoff with a knee injury, whipped in a cross which the South keeper could only parry out. Dan O'Halloran netted with the rebound for his 17th goal of the season.

A 51st goal in West Cheshire football for Dan, an excellent return in little over two seasons.

South rallied and got back into the game within minutes with a decent goal, and were on the front foot, attacking in numbers and looking the more likely to score. They soon got the goal and managed to hold on to take the points.

They were the better side and were deserved winners on the day - we still need to learn to kill games off and make the most of our advantages, a lesson learnt for some of the young lads who have had a very good season in their first season in adult football.

There was a nice moment for Andy Cass as he put the boots back on for a second half cameo. He showed some nice touches but may well be regretting the run-out now with all the aches and pains kicking in.

On to next week as our First Team are back at it against Prescot Cables, and the Reserves travel to face Groves.

Our U-15 Saturday side tasted success when they faced Heswall Juniors Hawks in the League Cup at The Puddydale.

Goals from Jamal Black and a tremendous hat trick from Joe Willis gave our lads a 4 – 0 win and a place in the final, date and venue to be announced soon. The best of luck to the boys in their quest to bring a trophy home this year.

We are still on the lookout for award sponsors for our End of Season Awards. Each spot costs £50 and comes with the opportunity to be involved in presenting an award, and the knowledge that your company will be promoted vigorously via our social media pages.
