As the season heads into its final stage with fixtures coming thick and fast, Heswall FC have seen many a game in recent weeks with various levels of success.

In repeating last season's feat of reaching both the Wirral Amateur and Wirral Senior Cup Finals we were hoping to go one better this season after losing both finals then.

Sadly the fickle hand of fate was against us as the outcome was the same with our young Reserve Team going down 2 – 1 to Hooton FC in the Wirral Amateur Final at Ashville FC on Good Friday.

Our lads gave a good account of themselves with Conor Egan netting our goal after a woeful performance from the man with the whistle, awarding Hooton a penalty for a foul by their own player! The lads have had a good season and one they will surely learn a great deal from. We are very proud of their achievements this season.

In the Wirral Senior Cup final on Saturday, our First Team entered the lion's den when facing Cammell Lairds at their own ground. Despite our hosts playing in a league above as an established North West Counties team, it was our lads who dominated the first half without getting the all-important opening goal. Shay Roberts, Danny Dixon and Nathan Johnston all went close for us.

As we entered the second half, while still the better team, it was Lairds who took the lead with a brilliant header from a corner. Soon after that, two further goals came which gave Lairds the win with a flattering scoreline.

We more than held our own and were the better team, lessons learned on making the most of our advantages. As with our Reserve Team, the Firsts have had a strong season and we are happy with our league performances, with a likely top half finish in our first season back in the top division.

As a club we are always striving to improve in all areas and we are happy with the progress made on the pitch from all of our sides this season.

We look forward to our U15 Saturday team competing in the Eastham JFL Cup Final to be held at Gayton Park on 21st May, our U15 Sunday team in the Wallasey JFL Presidents Cup Final on 1st May at Vauxhalls, and our Youth Team in the prestigious Cheshire County FA Junior Cup Final on 15th May at Cammell Lairds. We wish all our lads the very best in their attempts to put silverware on the table.

For both our finals, we were delighted to be able to support #TeamDDB, a local charity supporting those affected by cancer, set up by Danny De Brabander and his band of brothers and sisters to raise awareness and fundraise to help the research on finding a cure.

Danny is a friend of Heswall FC and a truly inspirational guy who continues to fight his own battle with bowel cancer and does so with a positive approach. Heswall FC are so proud to be able to offer our support to Danny and all at #TeamDDB.

We remain keen to involve local companies with our club and are offering a range of sponsorship packages to suit most budgets. If you are interested in getting involved with your local club then please contact me, Club Chairman Robbie Matthews, at [email protected]
