Heswall v Prescot Cables Reserves
Heswall v Prescot Cables Reserves

By Robbie Matthews, Heswall FC

Our relegation-threatened visitors were looking to scrape the points needed to keep them in the division for another season, but a strong performance from the Yellows pushed them closer to the drop.

With players missing and lads playing out of position, it was testament to them that they dominated the game throughout with Matty Morris the standout performer with a goal to show for his efforts.

We started the game well and showed good attacking intent with Danny Dixon working hard and looking to create chances, and indeed it was Danny who broke the deadlock when the ball came to him eight yards out at an angle to the goal, but he finished ruthlessly into the top corner with the goalkeeper nowhere near it - a terrific finish from a quality player enjoying a good season.

As we continued to press home our advantage, creating a few chances, it was Matty Morris who made the difference when he brilliantly chipped the keeper from inside the box, a brilliant finish from a brilliant player who continues to show his class and seems to improve all the time.

With the opportunity to seemingly improve the goal difference, we pushed on and were rewarded with a penalty which Danny Dixon took, only to see his low effort saved well by the Cables keeper who palmed the ball onto the post.

The game fizzled out with little incident to speak off until late on when Cables somehow got back into the game courtesy of an own goal, but it was the Yellows who comfortably closed the game out to take the win and leave our visitors staring into the abyss of relegation with the teams above them having games in hand.

Our Reserve Team travelled to Groves FC in Ellesmere Port in a mid-table clash with both teams looking to climb the table in the final run of games. We started well and looked like the team to take the lead and so it proved when Dan O'Halloran netted his 18th goal of the season with a good finish.

Groves got themselves back into the game through a tap-in after some good build up down our flank, but the game was to end all square and a point apiece.
