Heswall FC: a round-up of successful weekend action and two victories

It was a return to league action for Heswall First Team on Saturday as we welcomed Chester Nomads to Gayton Park in the 1st Division.

We started the game really well and were one up inside two minutes. Nomads tried playing out from the back, but Steve Forbes did the hard work closing down the defender and forcing the error, which allowed him to play Shay Roberts in on goal. Shay kept his cool, dummied the keeper and rolled the ball home.

We kept pushing and dominated the game and soon got our reward when a pinpoint cross from Paul Lindfield was headed home by that man Shay for his second of the game. We remained on the front foot but created only a few half chances without troubling the keeper too much.

The second half was a similar story as were very much the better side and, after great work down our left from Tom Bradshaw, Shay Roberts was left to roll the ball into an empty net with his left foot to complete the perfect hat-trick. Shay has had a terrific season hitting 14 goals so far, a great return from a player in his first season in senior football after coming through our Youth team.

We soon put the game to bed when we were awarded a free kick just outside the box and Paul Lindfield showed his own class with a fine strike into the bottom left hand corner to make it 4 – 0 and complete a comfortable win.

We move on to a midweek game when we travel to Prescot Cables Reserves looking to maintain our unbeaten run in the league since the turn of the year.

Our Reserves travelled to Capenhurst Villa Reserves looking to repeat our recent win in the cup. A brilliant team performance resulted in a fine 4 – 3 win, with goals from Travis O'Brien, Skipper Jamie Steele and a double from Conor Egan. The Reserves welcome Champions Elect Sutton Athletic next week knowing a win will delay their party for another week.

With the season heading into the final stages, we invite you all to come along and support your local team as we try to bring trophies home and finish our league campaigns with a flurry of wins.

The bar is open for games and a warm welcome will be extended to new fans.
