Heswall FC - a review and a preview of our local grassroots action

In the last of a run of six away games, Heswall FC took the eight mile trip to Capenhurst Villa in the West Cheshire League Division 1 looking to put last week's Pyke Cup Semi Final defeat behind us.

We started on the front foot as the lads showed their determination to taste victory from the start. Matty Morris was the stand out performer creating a number of chances which were spurned by our lads.

Their mindset can't be faulted though, and they continued to dominate the game and, while the defence did a great job in protecting our clean sheet, it was in form Nathan Johnston who made the difference, cutting in from from the left hand side and slotting home into the bottom corner to give the Yellows a deserved lead.

With our goal largely untroubled we were able to close the game out and enjoy the three points and focus on tomorrow's fixture against Chester Nomads at Gayton Park. The bar will be open and we invite everyone to come and join us for a beer and a cracking game of football.

It was cup semi-final action for our Reserves as we travelled to Sutton Athletic in the West Cheshire League Shield. The Ellesmere Port based team are running away with the Third Division title and recently inflicted a heavy defeat on us during Manager Ben Gore's first game at the helm - so a tough encounter was expected.

Sadly, despite a tremendous performance and a fine Jamie Steele goal, our hosts did just enough to take the win with a 2 - 1 score line. Nevertheless, it was a testament to the work from the new management team and the improvement from the lads that we matched Sutton man for man and could have won the game. In the end, a bit of extra experience told on the day and we wish Sutton all the best in the final.

There was another semi final on Sunday when our Youth team welcomed Sandbach FC to Gayton Park in the prestigious Cheshire County FA Youth Cup. A superb team performance from the lads with four goal Rocco Ceraolo the hero, as we triumphed with a comprehensive 4 - 0 win against a team sitting in a division above us.

It was a brilliant achievement by the lads and Management team Nick Harland and John Naylor, as we look forward to a final on Sunday 10th April. It's an 11am kick-off against Vauxhalls Youth on their own turf at the Syncreon Arena, Rivacre Road.

In what could be a glorious end to the season, we draw your attention to this and other dates when we have the chance to add silverware to the cabinet.

All support is very welcome and will be greatly appreciated.
