Meanwhile at Prenton Park - plans for exciting new Tranmere Rovers fan park are revealed

By Mark Gorton 29th Jul 2021

Plans for a striking new fan park at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton Park ground have been revealed.

The structure, which has an estimated cost of between £1.5m and £2m, is set to contain a micro brewery after the club reached an agreement in principle with the brewer German Kraft.

Speaking to the LDRS today, Ben Harrison, chairman of the Tranmere Rovers Trust, said: "We are working with local residents.

"We have had a local consultation and we are taking on board everyone's views before we submit a planning application."

Mr Harrison also gave the estimation for how much the fan park will cost and added that the trust will be running a crowdfunding campaign to help support the project.

If all goes well, Mr Harrison said the fan park could be open as early as October or November this year.

However, the trust chairman was clear that plans are currently at an early stage and any estimates on cost or timescale are provisional and could yet change.

Elaborating on the plans in an article on the club's website, Mr Harrison said: "We realise how successful and much loved the current fan park is, but it is coming to the end of its life and so we wanted to create a new building which can accommodate more people.

"However, we also wanted one which is sited further away from local residents and one which is sound proofed, to minimise disruption to our neighbours."

Rovers narrowly missed out on promotion from League 2 this season after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Morecambe in a play-off semi-final.

Like most clubs across the country, Tranmere have played behind closed doors for the vast majority of this season.

The club will be hoping that shortly after the new season kicks off they can get back to playing in front of large crowds at Prenton Park with the prospect of a new and improved fan park to go to before games in the autumn.
