Discover the riches of knowledge with the Heswall Society's Family Treasure Hunt
If you're a parent, grandparent or guardian looking for something with which to entertain the kids now, or perhaps when October half-term arrives at the end of the month, then those helpful folk at the Heswall Society have the answer - in more ways than one.
The Society's new Family Treasure Hunt aims to help local families enjoy the town, and bring a fresh view of the historic community in which they live.
It is particularly designed to appeal to children of primary school age, but to be honest it looks entertaining and informative for all ages.
The walk is suitable for wheelchair users, but the Society points out that some of the pavements are narrow and steep and there are a few roads to cross.
The Hunt, which takes around an hour, depending on how many stops are made, leads participants through Heswall, from the town centre to Dawstone Park, noting points of interest and supplying little nuggets of historical knowledge along the way.
Clearly conscious that some youngsters will require a break from learning, no matter how stealthy it is, the route has been designed to embrace two play areas. For sustenance or just a plain old treat, there are also several cafes to choose from.
Sadly there is no gold to be found - the 'treasure' is the satisfaction of having enjoyed and completed the walk, while learning a little bit more about Heswall and its history.
