Birkenhead Priory - the oldest standing building in Merseyside - reopens tomorrow
Tomorrow, Birkenhead Priory will officially reopen to visitors who can enjoy exploring the grounds again.
Founded in 1150, the monks of this Benedictine monastery looked after travellers for nearly 400 years and supervised the first regulated 'ferry cross the Mersey'.
Guided tours of the area will be available, and visitors can return to The Western Range, Great Hall, Cloisters, Chapter House, Undercroft and grounds.
Unfortunately, for the time-being the Refectory and HMS Conway Museum will remain closed due to ongoing ventilation works.
Visitors can also now climb the 101 steps to the top of St Mary's tower for spectacular views of the borough and Liverpool's waterfront.
Booking is essential to visit the tower and can be arranged on site, where you will be given a timed slot.
Birkenhead Priory will be operating their summer opening hours of Wednesday to Friday, 1pm to 5pm and weekends, 10am to 5pm.
Along with other council services, Birkenhead Priory, has enhanced safety measures in place to help protect the safety of visitors and staff.
As part of these measures there will be a one-way system with the entrance at Priory Street and the exit via the car park on Church Street.
Staff and volunteers will still be offering track and trace check in, hand sanitising stations will be available, and visitors are asked to wear a face covering and maintain social distancing.
