As expected our schools have closed. To be frank it was so expected it seems odd that primary children were allowed to return to the classroom for just one day.

That said, the COVID-19 pandemic is suddenly fast moving, and if it is to be brought to a halt some time this year, then another lockdown combined with a swift vaccination programme are a necessary evil and our greatest hope.

It's easy to forget that Heswall boasts a 72 acre Site of Special Scientific Interest, or SSSI, which is an increasingly rare example of Lowland Heath habitat.

Despite being so close to the heart of Heswall and its shops, cafes, superstores and traffic, Heswall Dales remains a special place to visit, an intriguing and important slice of the natural world right on our doorsteps.
