Heswall in Bloom launches crowdfunding campaign and needs our support

The Heswall in Bloom volunteers do amazing work brightening up the town with their green fingers.

The group's aim is "to enhance Heswall's streetscape and make it a vibrant and welcoming place in which to live, work and visit."

Heswall in Bloom was formed when Wirral Council's budget pressures meant there was no public money available to support such work. The group sits under The Heswall Society which provides a small annual donation, but most of the money needed has to be raised from within the community.

Says Heswall in Bloom: "We purchase bedding plants and shrubs from local nurseries. Currently our main supplier is Dale Farm which provides a day service for adults with disabilities and support for adults with mental health needs.

"Our energetic group of volunteers then plant up the planters, barrier baskets and beds on a twice yearly basis and maintain them to provide seasonal colour throughout the year.

"We have been successful in transforming the bus station by the addition of 3 planters donated by Merseytravel and the purchase of 11 barrier baskets through funding by the ward councillors and a generous grant through the Tesco bags for help scheme.

"Following a further grant by ward councillors, we created the new shrub bed opposite the Catholic Church. We also keep the Fire Station garden tidy and the Fire Station officers very kindly top up the reservoirs in the large planters."

However, Heswall in Bloom is now facing new challenges posed by the pandemic and its consequences. In years gone by, local businesses have stepped up to the plate and shown great generosity.

Not surprisingly it is now tough for many businesses to keep this up. As a result Heswall in Bloom is in desperate need of cash to continue its work.

Hence the new crowdfunding campaign to raise money to purchase bedding plants and equipment.

The target is £4000, and any contribution small or large will be received with equal gratitude.

Heswall in Bloom adds: "Your donations would make a huge difference and enable our work to continue. Without money we will be unable to fund the winter bedding. We would be so grateful for your donations so that we can keep Heswall blooming. The team thanks you in advance for your help and support."
