It's often said that a good cup run is great for a team, and this week we followed up last week's Cheshire Amateur Cup win by starting our quest to go one better in the Wirral District FA Senior Cup after last year's final defeat.

Our First Team welcomed Mallaby FC to Gayton Park in what promised to be an entertaining game. Our guests have started the season with some high scoring wins, but also one high scoring defeat - so a goal fest was expected by many.

Heswall started well with the Mallaby goalkeeper making an extraordinary save in the first few minutes. The Yellows were not to be denied and from a Matty Morris corner, Matty Beaman rose highest to nod home a fine header to put us 1–0 up.

Only a few minutes later and again Matty Morris was the architect as another quality delivery from a corner allowed Ben Dufton Kelly to power home a header to put us two up. Ben has started the season in good goal scoring form with five goals from defence.

Midway through the second half and a fine through ball from that man Morris again put Jordan Deer through on goal with only the keeper to beat - which he did with some great skill, lobbing the stranded glovesman to send us in at half time with a comfortable 3–0 lead.

The second half took a familiar path with Heswall on top for large periods and gaining reward for our pressure when Andy Cook smashed home a left wing cross on the volley from close range to put us 4 – 0 up and out of reach of Mallaby. Again, the creator was the man of the moment, Matty Morris.

It really was a case of when it's your day, it really is your day, and Matty was on hand to put the game to bed after a through ball was cleared by the onrushing goalkeeper only to land at the mercurial feet of our sublime no 11. From 30 yards out he calmly lobbed the ball

home to put the gloss on a tremendous individual and team performance.

A great display, and one we will be looking to take us forward in the next round where we face West Kirby on October 2nd at Gayton Park. With progress being made in two cup competitions over the last few games, hopes are high that we can build on recent success and bring home some silverware this season.

Our Reserve Team received a bye in the Wirral Amateur Cup so were fortunate to get the weekend off, but they look forward to facing Neston Nomads Reserves in the Wirral Amateur Cup.

Next week sees us welcome Redgate Rovers to Gayton Park in the West Cheshire League 1st Division as our First Team look to continue their great form, while our Reserves are in action in a good old fashioned Friday night game away to Bootle FC Reserves.

As a club we are always keen to partner up with local companies and have recently welcomed Star Babies to Gayton Park. Star Babies offers "Friendly and Welcoming, Unique and Inspiring Sensory and Support Classes for you and your Babies and Toddlers." Please contact Sara on 07811450216 - classes are currently held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at Heswall FC.

As well as Star Babies, we are also host to the local Slimming World group run by Ria. Every Saturday morning at Gayton Park from 7.30am you can receive "all the support you need on your journey to a healthy lifestyle and weight loss". Please call in and get involved, or give Ria a call on 07497810820.
