As we enjoy the last embers of summer, a sunny Saturday afternoon in Heswall brought local rivals Poulton Vics Reserves to face our resurgent Reserve team in the West Cheshire League, while our First Team travelled to Face Chester and Wirral League team Hoole Rovers in the prestigious Cheshire Amateur Cup.

Our quest to go one better than we did two years ago when we were cruelly denied the chance to compete in the final, started with a resounding victory for the Firsts as we ran out 5 – 1 winners with goals from last season's top marksman Joe Ford, Matty Morris who hit a brace and has started the season with a flurry of goals, an own goal, and a strike from young Shay Roberts who has made a seamless step into first division football.

The team were wearing our new away kit which was kindly sponsored by CBE Services - a huge thank you to them for their amazing generosity. As a club we rely greatly on the support of our sponsors and are always on the lookout for more local companies to get involved, so please do get in touch if you would like to help.

The draw was made for the next round and we are on the road again, albeit a short trip down the M53 to face fellow first division club Ashville who have started the season in fine form and as yet have not tasted defeat. A tough game lies ahead.

In the third division, our Reserves welcomed Poulton Vics Reserves to Gayton Park. The Vics are riding high after receiving the most welcome news that they have the keys back to their famous home ground in Wallasey. After a long battle to return it's great to see the Vics back where they belong.

On the day, both teams gave it everything in an entertaining game and we deservedly took the lead with a fine strike from hotshot Dan O'Halloran - but the Vics rallied in the second half and took a share of the points with an equalising goal midway through the second half.

September brought the start of the North West Youth Alliance season with our new Youth team beginning their season with a tricky away game in Manchester against Wythenshawe FC.

After a tough start we found ourselves 3 – 0 down, but our lads in their first season at this level battled back with goals from Toby Jones and a brace from Ben Ryan. In a harsh example of what's required at this level, Wythenshawe took the points after a late winner. but the lads did themselves proud and will learn a lot from a tough opening game.

Next week sees our First Team start our Wirral Cup campaign with a home game to local side Mallaby. Kick-off is at 3pm at Gayton Park, the bar will be open, so please come along and enjoy a beer and a game which has all the makings of a cracker.

As a club we rely on the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. We are truly thankful for the work they all do, but we are always open to new people coming on board, so if you have a few hours to help out then our door is always open.

If interested please get in touch with me, Chairman Robbie Matthews, via email on [email protected].
