We may be living in increasingly tough times, but so far the property market appears to be standing firm - though July did see house prices fall slightly for the first time in more than a year.
The average price of a home in the UK was £293,221 last month, down 0.1%, the first decrease since June last year, according to data collated by the bank Halifax.
