Wirral roads and pavements will benefit from around £4 million of improvements over the coming year as part of the council's annual Highway Maintenance Programme.

Given that Gary Usher is the power behind restaurants like Hoole's 'Sticky Walnut' and Heswall's 'Burnt Truffle', you might be forgiven for thinking that 'Bleached Slug' is the name of a new gastronomic venture of his, possibly supported by a crowdfunding campaign like the one that's raised more than £170,000 for his company's new 'eat at home' and events business.
But no, 'bleached slug' is how Gary described Boris Johnson on seeing video footage of the Prime Minister celebrating Harry Kane's goal that put England two up against Germany.

Thousands of children in Wirral are self-isolating due to Covid-19 cases in their schools.
Julie Webster, Wirral Council's director of public health, said there were just over 3,300 pupils self-isolating in the borough at a meeting of the authority's Policy and Resources Committee last night.

Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses after a serious collision near Thornton Hough on Thursday 24 June.
Emergency services were called to Neston Road at around 6.25pm to a report a blue VW Passat and a silver/grey VW Polo had been in collision.
