Heswall Football Club is an important part of the fabric of the local community and is always eager to attract new faces to get involved with grassroots football - and welcome back old ones.

On October 30 the club is hosting a Legends Night at its Gayton Park ground, but this is not the sort of event that welcomes well known past professional players to share a few anecdotes, but one that seeks instead the local legends who, over the years, have helped build a club like Heswall and keep it going.

A proposal to sell a former school playing field to a van hire firm will not go ahead after councillors, including Heswall's Andrew Hodson, threw the controversial idea out.

Last night's meeting of Wirral Council's Economy and Regeneration Committee unanimously rejected the proposal to sell the land for £150,000, amid concerns over flooding and building on green space.

Assuming you have fuel in your tank to make trips to the tip, it's worth noting that the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority will soon be opening their recycling centres for a shorter amount of time as they switch to winter operating hours from October.

Incidentally, looking at the picture above supplied by the Authority, one can't help but think Dad should reconsider recycling that toy scooter in case he needs it to get to work.
