Heswall almost tops Wirral coronavirus cases as infections in West Wirral increase

Rising infections in Wirral were discussed at last night's meeting of Wirral council's Adult Social Care and Public Health Committee, with new areas featuring among the worst hit in the borough.

Throughout most of the pandemic, East Wirral has seen far more cases than West Wirral, with parts of Birkenhead and Wallasey seeing many surges across the last 18 months.

Disruption at Birkenhead School following COVID-19 outbreak

The Local Democracy Reporting Service understands that children in Years 7-11 at The Birkenhead School on Beresford Road in Oxton are being given the choice of attending the school in-person or remotely after a number of staff members and pupils tested positive for coronavirus.

Sixth Form pupils are required to attend the independent school as normal.

Charlie and Bunta

Earlier this year, Victoria Evans, known as 'Bunta' to her friends and family, and her daughter Charlie, were rescued from mud on Thurstaston Beach by Hoylake RNLI volunteers, as reported by Heswall Nub News.

This evening, their story is revisited by the BBC documentary series, Saving Lives at Sea, which follows the men and women of the Royal National Lifeboat institution as they go about their vital work.

After a pretty even start to the game, with both sides creating some half chances, it was the hosts who went ahead with a sloppy goal from our perspective - and the story was the same on the second goal as we found ourselves 2–0 down. There was consolation thanks to a well taken strike from Joe Ford as Ashville held on to take the victory and a place in the next round.
