Diesel locomotives will soon have to be a thing of the past

Recently we've asked if the local community can do something to save and repurpose the abandoned Heswall police station - and if the very dismal Heswall railway station could also be given a new lease of life by making it possible to travel direct between the town and Liverpool.

Thanks to everyone who responded on social media, where it became plain that a fair few people would like a direct service - and not to hang out in a station that feels like it belongs in a spooky movie about the supernatural.

Hoylake beach late last month

A study vital to deciding the council's policy on a beach which has been compared to a 'football pitch' or 'quagmire' has been delayed.

Since 2019, when Wirral Council decided to stop all management of Hoylake beach after it was strongly criticised for spraying it with glyphosate, the policy of leaving it to nature has been highly controversial.

Ava White

Detectives investigating the murder of 12-year-old Ava White in Liverpool city centre on Thursday night have charged a teenager.

Yesterday evening, a 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article and has been remanded in custody to appear at court today.
