After a pretty even start to the game, with both sides creating some half chances, it was the hosts who went ahead with a sloppy goal from our perspective - and the story was the same on the second goal as we found ourselves 2–0 down. There was consolation thanks to a well taken strike from Joe Ford as Ashville held on to take the victory and a place in the next round.

As we enjoy the last embers of summer, a sunny Saturday afternoon in Heswall brought local rivals Poulton Vics Reserves to face our resurgent Reserve team in the West Cheshire League, while our First Team travelled to Face Chester and Wirral League team Hoole Rovers in the prestigious Cheshire Amateur Cup.

Our quest to go one better than we did two years ago when we were cruelly denied the chance to compete in the final, started with a resounding victory for the Firsts as we ran out 5 – 1 winners with goals from last season's top marksman Joe Ford, Matty Morris who hit a brace and has started the season with a flurry of goals, an own goal, and a strike from young Shay Roberts who has made a seamless step into first division football.

vs Groves FC

On Monday evening, our reserve team welcomed Groves FC to Gayton Park for the first time as our guests competed in the West Cheshire League for the first time. The Yellows started well and 2 goals from skipper Nathan Johnstone and an own goal put us 3–0 up at half time. The Groves manager had the Midas touch with his half time team talk, and they came out a different side in the second half, scoring 2 goals to get themselves right back in the game. As play went into the 96th minute, a sweeping free kick from the far side found its way in to draw the Ellesmere Port side level with virtually the last kick of the match.
