Heswall FC v Neston Nomads weekend action: victory for the Yellows as Storm Eunice puts the wind up both teams

As the local area faced the wrath of Storm Eunice this weekend, we made the short trip to Neston to face the Nomads in Division 3.

With the weather decimating the fixture calendar recently, our First Team game at home to Maghull was called off, so a side made up of First Team players needing game time and Reserve Team players made the trip to face Neston for the third time in a month.

In torrid conditions, the first half passed largely without incident, with neither keeper having much to do and chances at a premium. Travis O'Brien worked hard to influence the game and Conor Egan looked to create openings up front.

Into the second half and the quality on show was again minimal, but the game's decider came when a corner from our right hand side was headed towards goal by Graham Mort. The Nomads defender cleared off the line - only for Conor Egan to show his predatory instincts with a smart right foot finish to put the Yellows (playing in blue) ahead.

Like Storm Eunice, our hosts huffed and puffed but created little to trouble Joe Collister in the Heswall net, and the game petered out somewhat before the points were ours and we took the high road back to Gayton Park.

Despite the conditions, there were still some positive performances, with Cal France the Man of the Match following a strong performance at centre half.

We move on to next week when our First Team travels to face high flying Mersey Royal in the Wirral District FA Senior Cup Semi Final, a repeat of last year's semi when the Yellows came out victorious in a thrilling 3 – 2 win. We will be hoping for more of the same and looking to reach another final. The venue is the Bidston Tennis Centre with kick off at 2pm.

Our Reserve Team hosts Capenhurst Villa Reserves in the Wirral District FA Amateur Cup Semi Final, determined to match last season's achievement in reaching the final.

As the end of the season draws ever closer, it's great to see both our senior teams challenging for honours and having plenty to play for. It's testament to the incredible work being done by our Management teams and the drive and desire of our players to be competitive and deliver a successful season.

As a club we rely on the volunteers who give up their time and do a great job in supporting the club. We are always open to new people coming along and getting involved, so if you can spare a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon then please make the trip to Gayton Park.

If you'd like to find out more about how you can support Heswall FC in other ways, kindly get in touch with me, Chairman Robbie Matthews, on 07919877135.
