Heswall FC: room for improvement but big hopes for the future - a review of recent action

The tough start to the season carried on for us as the First Team travelled to Maghull hoping to build on a strong performance last week at Bootle. The result didn't go our way that day either but the attitude and performance were much better.
As we know in football, things rarely go to plan and we were 3 - 0 down inside 25 minutes! A much improved second half performance was good to see and Lewi Shaw netted a fine goal to give us hope - but that was as good as it got and we lost the game 3 - 1.
Our season has so far been littered with inconsistency, mistakes and an inability to put the ball in the back of the net, yet spirits remain high around the club as we are confident the lads can light a fire under the season and pick up some vital wins as we enter the second half of the season.
Our Reserves had a frustrating day too. In a big six pointer at the bottom of the division, we failed to score and West Kirby Reserves snatched a 1 – 0 win, meaning we remain rooted to the foot of the table with plenty of work to do to avoid the ignominy of a bottom place finish.
A huge thank you to Alan Griffiths Sports Photography for the brilliant pictures, superb quality and a really professional service from a top man.
While matters on the pitch require improvement, off the pitch the club is looking to build for the future with plans in place for internal renovations and, having recently met with our local councillors Andrew & Kathy Hodson, hopes are high that working together we will be able to start work on improving the ground and spectator experience.
It was a really positive meeting with the Hodsons, and we are very grateful to them for sparing time to come and speak with us. Their support is invaluable as we look to progress as a club.
We are delighted to welcome some new partners to the club with Wolf Hair Clinic joining us this week. Wolf and owner Dan Johnson are Wirral based and provide expert services in Scalp Micropigmentation for those suffering hair loss, baldness and Alopecia. We are always keen to support local business and are delighted to have Dan on board with us.
We remain keen to engage with the local business community and invites anybody keen to get on board with their local grassroots football club to please me, Chairman Robbie Matthews, at [email protected].
Many thanks and best wishes.
