Heswall FC: a round-up of weekend action which saw another victory for the Firsts, while the Reserves got bogged down

Our First Team was on the road again this week, making the short trip down the motorway to face Ellesmere Port Town at Whitby Sports and Social Club.

This was the third away game on the spin as we looked to continue a great run of form which has seen us take maximum points in seven out of the last ten games with three wins on the bounce.

In really tough conditions, it was the Yellows who dominated the game and went ahead on 15 minutes when Danny Dixon opened the scoring with a well-timed finish from a Nathan Johnston cross after some good work down our right hand side by Chris McGowan and Matty Morris.

On 25 minutes, we were afforded the opportunity to double our lead when a penalty was awarded, but the Port keeper kept his side in the game by saving a poor penalty from Joe Ford, the big striker fluffing his lines.

Nevertheless, we continued to push on and, on 35 minutes, we put together another outstanding team goal to put us 2-0 up. A Johnston dink into the run of Paul Lindfield who could have smashed home himself, but instead he expertly squared the ball first time, past the Port keeper, into the path of Dixon who tapped home for his second goal of the game.

The Second half was relatively comfortable with Nathan Johnston making it 3-0 with a tidy finish into the far corner.

The game could and should have been more convincing, but this was a well-disciplined performance and three more points.

Man of the Match was the faultless centre half Louis O'Brien who continues to develop into a very good player with a great future in the game.

A special mention for Paul Lindfield returning to action for us after time spent playing in Wales, and especially for Jack Darlington, who returned after a lengthy period out injured - and missed a sitter! Great to have both players back in the squad.

With four wins in four games and three of those away from home, we are hoping our good run of form continues.

Our Reserve Team's home game against Mersey Harps was brought to an early conclusion when the referee deemed the pitch unplayable at half time, so we move on to next week when the First Team rack up the miles again by travelling to Prescot Cables Reserves, and the Reserves host Runcorn Sports Reserves at Gayton Park.

Earlier in the day, our U15 team faced MSC Eastham in the Eastham JFL, and a great team performance away from home brought a 4–3 win with goals from Kyle McGregor who also laid on an assist, Jamal Black and Harvey O'Brien with a debut goal. There were further assists from skipper James Hawkins and two from Ted Galer.

A tremendous performance from the lads who dug in on a terrible pitch and in awful conditions - great character and desire from a very talented group of players.

It's a great time for Heswall FC, with some very positive results and performances, young players developing and enjoying their football, and lots of positivity around the club, so we invite any local companies who may wish to jump on board to get in touch.

We offer a range of sponsorship opportunities to suit most budgets. Please contact me, Robbie Matthews, Chairman, on [email protected]

Many thanks.
