The troubles we've had this season continued with a poor performance as we went down 3 - 0 to Rainhill Town on Saturday.

After a poor start, a sluggish first half ended with Heswall a goal down, and after an honest

half time message from the manager, we anticipated an improved second half. However, we didn't respond and we conceded within the first few minutes and again later in the half.

It was a disappointing show from us that was out of character given how we've been performing recently. The lads have got to work hard, roll up their sleeves and battle for every point. We have another big game next week away to Litherland Remyca who will gift us nothing - so we need to be at it from the off.

The Reserves fared little better at Gayton Park, coming up against a strong Ellesmere Port Town Reserves team featuring players from Cammell Lairds first team. We started on the back foot and were soon punished when a crossfield ball was hit home at the back post, and things soon got worse when the Port side got themselves another goal to lead 2 – 0.

We battled back and got ourselves back into the game through an own goal, but we were soon even further adrift when the Port scored twice to go 4 –1 up. Only a late strike from Ciaran Meek gave us a glimmer of hope, which was extinguished when the referee blew the whistle and the game was up.

This season really has been one to forget so far but we remain in the fight and we won't shy away from hard work, doing all we can to ensure we finish the season on a positive note.

With the ongoing cost of living crisis in the country, there will be no harder time for those affected than the winter and particularly the Christmas period - so we are looking to help out and will be undertaking a food collection in conjunction with Wirral Foodbank.

Donations can be made on a Saturday between 12pm and 4pm at Heswall Football Club, Gayton Park, Brimstage Road, Heswall, CH60 1XG.

Thank you so much in advance for any donations. Let's see if we can make this difficult time a bit easier for hard pressed families and help them enjoy a Merry Christmas.

Wirral Foodbank are currently requesting the following items be donated:

TINNED MEAT / TINNED FRUIT / SQUASH / TINNED TOMATOES / TINNED FISH / BISCUITS / JAM / NAPPIES (SIZE 6) / WASHING-UP LIQUID / TOOTHBRUSHES / TOOTHPASTE / DEODORANT
