Wirral Way widening work including Lower Heswall continues

By Mark Gorton 11th Jan 2022

Work has started at Wirral Country Park on the latest phase of the Wirral Way Widening Scheme, that aims to improve the safety of all users on the shared pedestrian and cycle path.

The latest phase will see the path widened by up to a metre along three of the narrowest sections. These are:

- Sandy Lane bridge to York Avenue footpath (West Kirby)

- Simons Bridge to Dawpool Nature Reserve access (Caldy/Thurstaston)

- Delavor Road bridge to Davenport Road (Lower Heswall)

The work will involve the removal of woody vegetation for access to the adjacent open ditches, which will then by re-dug and culverted allowing for more surface water to be drained from the path.

Existing bridges over the ditches will also be removed providing safer and direct access to the path for homeowners whose properties back on to the Wirral Way.

The works have been made possible due to a successful for capital funding and will be ongoing until Spring 2022.
