Weather warnings as Storm Barra heads our way

By Mark Gorton 7th Dec 2021

The second major storm of this winter may repeat the chaos of November 26 and 27.

Named Barra by the Irish Met Office, it's predicted to hit much of the UK tomorrow, and our Met Office has issued a Yellow warning that Barra will be accompanied by high winds likely to cause disruption to travel.

Says the Met Office: "A deep area of low pressure moving in across the UK from the Atlantic is likely to bring high winds to many parts of the UK.

"Strong winds arriving into the west through the morning, spreading inland and reaching eastern areas through the afternoon and early evening. Gusts of 45-50 mph are expected widely, with 60-70 mph in exposed coastal locations."

Barra, of course, follows hard on the heels of Storm Arwen which made its presence felt here in Heswall and district in the form of downed trees, debris on roads and power cuts.

In our part of the world fallen trees were numerous - though we can express a vote of thanks to those who cleared them in pretty good time.

At the risk of stating the obvious, if you have to drive tomorrow, take care.
