The support of volunteers is needed to help plant a woodland of more than 2,700 trees at Poulton Recreation Grounds next month.

Wirral residents are invited to get involved by grabbing a spade (or bringing their own if they have one) on 12 March to help the area become a haven for wildlife.

Planting activity will start from 10am at Poulton Recreation Ground (also known as Spital Recreation Ground), Stanton Road, Bebington, CH63 3BA.

Members of staff (wearing green hi-vis) will be on-hand during the day to help.

The community planting at Poulton Recreation Ground is the largest community planting to take place this season – with the site being a huge two hectares – that's the same size as four football pitches.

Plans for the site will mean that the site will become home to a woodland area, surrounded by shrubs.

A mixture of native deciduous trees will be planted in the area – 12 different species in total – including Oak, Beech, Sweet Chestnut and Crab Apple.

Volunteers attending the planting should come prepared in warm and waterproof clothing and bring gardening gloves if they have any.
