Three teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of arson following the fire which spread quickly across marshland close to Parkgate on Saturday night.

The blaze began at around 6pm and burnt for almost six hours, before being confirmed extinguished early on Sunday morning.

The marshland forms part of a site of special scientific interest which is a haven for bird life.

An area of one square kilometre was affected, and drone footage has revealed the extent of the damage.

Following a Sunday appeal to help identify a group of young people, Cheshire Constabulary said: "Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson."

Having been interviewed by officers, the three boys, two aged 13, and one aged 14, have now been released on conditional bail.
