Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a serious collision in Heswall this morning.

At around 10.15am they received a report of a collision involving a silver Toyota Auris car and a red Honda motorcycle at the junction of Chester Road and Gayton Lane.

Emergency services attended and the male rider of the motorcycle was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The male driver of the car was taken to hospital for minor injuries and is assisting police with enquiries.

Road closures which have remained in place on Chester Road between Gayton roundabout and Boathouse Lane will be lifted this evening.

CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Following initial enquiries, officers are keen to speak to a man and a woman who were jogging in the area at the time who may have witnessed the collision.

Roads Policing Sergeant Amy Murray said: "We are in the early stages of an investigation into a road traffic collision in Heswall this morning which has left a man seriously injured.

"If you witnessed the collision or were driving past at the time and have any dashcam footage, please review it and get in touch.

"We are particularly keen to speak to a man and a woman who we believe were out jogging in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the collision.

"If this is you then please get in touch as soon as possible, as information you hold could be vital to our enquiries.
