Royal Liverpool Golf Club launches Hoylake Open Days

On the 14th of May, the 28th of June, and the 7th of July

This year, golfers from across the country can celebrate the 2023 return of The Open to Royal Liverpool - by playing the new Championship course before the world's greatest players.

Late last year it was confirmed that Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake will host the 151st Open.

Now the Club has decided to do something special to celebrate the tournament's return.

Since Rory McIlroy's Open victory at Hoylake in 2014, the links has undergone a number of alterations to ensure the course remains a stern test for amateur and professional golfers alike.

The most significant change is the reconstruction of the par 3 hole called 'Rushes', replaced by a stunning new hole called 'Little Eye', named after the outcrop of red sandstone which pokes from the sands of the Dee Estuary and visible from the elevated green.

The numbering of the course for The Open means 'Little Eye', normally the 15th, will be the Championship 17th and, despite being just 134 yards long, it's likely to be the scene of much drama - especially if the famous Hoylake winds are blowing.

Royal Liverpool's new Celebratory Open Days will give competitors a rare opportunity to play The Open course of 2023. They will start on the 17th hole, the Championship 1st, and end on the 16th, the Championship's closing hole, immediately after tackling 'Little Eye', two years before golf's finest compete to become Champion Golfer.

To mark the 151st Open at Hoylake, the entrance fee is £151, a significant reduction of the normal green fee.

This is the format of the Open Day.

- It's a two ball better ball Stableford for male, female or mixed pairs.

- Tee times will be available at 10 minute intervals between 9 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.

- Competitors will play the Open Championship routing around the links and experience the pin positions from the final day of The Open 2014.

- On arrival at Royal Liverpool players can enjoy a complimentary breakfast roll and cups of coffee, take advantage of a warm up on the range, be guaranteed a very warm welcome on the first tee, light refreshments at the Halfway House, and afterwards take away mementos of their visit.

Excellent winner and runners-up prizes will be awarded to the first three teams, along with those for longest drive and nearest to the pin.

Rob McBurney, Chair of Royal Liverpool's Open Championship Committee, said:

"We are excited about The Open returning to Hoylake. It's arguably the greatest golf tournament of them all, and means so much to the Club, to Hoylake, Wirral and the Liverpool City Region in general.

"The Open Days are a genuine opportunity to play a fine golf course recently reconfigured to give the game's best players something new and challenging to think about. 'Little Eye' is a great short hole, and could become our equivalent of Royal Troon's 'Postage Stamp'. We very much look forward to welcoming Hoylake Open Day competitors later this year."
