The makers of the hybrid London Taxi, LEVC, have released the first details and artist impressions of a campervan conversion, called the e-Camper.

Campervan sales have grown hugely after the pandemic as holidaymakers are forced to stay in the UK rather than travel abroad. This has led to a raft of new conversions, including pure electric-powered camper versions of the Vauxhall Vivaro and Nissan e-NV200.

Based on VN5, LEVC's range-extender electric van version of the taxi, the e-Camper has the same pure electric range of 60 miles. If the battery is kept charged, owners will be able to power the integrated electric kitchenette without the need for fossil fuels.

The e-Camper includes sleeping accommodation for four, with a pop-up roof and a central folding table. In addition, the campervan includes a second-row bench seat, which folds into the second double bed.

It will go on sale in the autumn, with a price of around £74,700. The e-Camper conversion is carried out by Wellhouse Leisure, who also market the £60,995, pure electric e-Vivaro.

If you want to try and electric camper before you buy, a company is now offering a Nissan-based Dalbury E for rental in Orkney.

PaulCamper, an online platform for motorhome and campervan sharing, has added the Nissan to its listings. On a full charge it can cover up to 120 miles. Also, with a rapid charge in just 30 minutes at one of the 30 charging points in Orkney, you can quickly add a further 80 miles, so running low on charge never needs to be a worry.
