Three months since the discovery of the body of a baby boy, detectives are continuing to appeal for the public to come forward with information.

The full-term baby boy was found at 4.25pm on Friday 29th January in a wooded area at the side of a footpath close to the 16th green of Brackenwood golf course in Bracken Lane, Bebington. A post-mortem to establish the cause of death proved inconclusive.

A number of lines of enquiry have been examined, including suggestions about the identity of the baby's mother, but all have been ruled out and enquiries are continuing.

Sadly, despite forensic examinations, it has not been possible to establish how long the baby's body had been at the golf course before he was discovered and officers are appealing to the local community for their help.

A letter has been sent out to homes in the local area appealing for anyone with information about the identity of the baby or his mother or father to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Judith Blease said: "It is really sad that three months on we are still not in a position to reunite this baby boy with his family so that he can be finally laid to rest.

"We appreciate everyone who has come forward with information so far but we believe there are still people out there who can help us and I would urge them to come forward.

"We are not looking to attribute blame to anybody, we are simply trying to establish what has taken place and work with our partners in the health and social care sectors to offer support to the baby's family.

"I am sure that there are people out there who know something but feel too scared or worried to come forward. I want them to feel reassured that the matter will be dealt with sensitively and all necessary help and support made available to those that need it.

"We are currently in talks with the coroner and local authority with a view to funeral arrangements being made for the baby but obviously we would like the baby's family to be part of that."

Dr Paula Cowan, Wirral GP and Chair of NHS Wirral CCG, said health and social care professionals were on hand to offer their support to the baby's family.

She said: "We really want to help mum in these very difficult circumstances to provide her with the support she needs. I would appeal for mum to make herself known so we can check on her physical and emotional wellbeing, we are ready and able help at a moment's notice."
