New Aldi 75% off bargain hour to launch next week

Next week, Aldi on May Road will introduce a new bargain hour which will see the cost of some foodstuffs cut by 75%.

The budget supermarket chain says it will lower the price of perishable fresh food - including fruit, bread, meat and vegetables - before a store closes.

The times when these bargain hours begin will vary from store to store and be hard to predict, so it may be a case of just getting lucky.

Clearly, it also wouldn't be a great idea right now to attract a flock of bargain hunters at a specific time of day.

Aldi says it will choose items which are "on their last day of life", and these will be identifiable by red stickers marked 75% OFF. The chain already has a policy in place which cuts 30% off the prices of products approaching their best-before dates.

The bargain hour concept has another advantage: it is part of Aldi's plan to halve food waste by 2030.

All products will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and shoppers should keep an eye open for the red stickers.

Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, Julie Ashfield, said: "Aldi is already known for its low prices, but these discounts will help some shoppers to cut their grocery bills even further – all while helping us reduce food waste.

"Shoppers need to be quick as I'm sure the products will prove popular."

In common with other supermarkets, Aldi customers are now required to wear a face covering in store unless medically exempt.
