The Governors of West Kirby Grammar School wish to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Physics for September 2022. The post is part-time (0.8 FTE) and is a permanent post. The ability to teach GCSE and A-level Physics is essential.

A strong degree in Physics is sought, although candidates with a degree in a closely related discipline are welcome to apply. This post would suit a newly or recently qualified practitioner, for whom extensive support and encouragement will be given, or a more experienced practitioner.

The Science department at WKGS has 12 fully equipped laboratories, four of which have been recently renovated. All students study separate sciences from Year 7. At GCSE, students choose to study either AQA separate science or combined science and follow a two-year KS4. Currently, in Y12 there is one A-level Physics group, with another two groups expected in September 2022. A-level students also follow the AQA specification, they have twelve 50-minute lessons per fortnight, and classes are usually shared between two teachers.

Students achieve excellent results, with 43% of GCSE Physics students achieving a grade 8 or 9, and 50% of A-level Physics students achieving A*-B grades in 2019.

There are numerous additional activities offered and the department runs a variety of trips each year, along with organising visiting speakers, in order to enhance and develop each students' learning experience.

West Kirby Grammar School is a very successful selective girls' school with a coeducational Sixth Form. There are over 1200 students on roll and results are outstanding. In 2019, a Progress 8 score of +0.76 was achieved and 61% of results were at grades 9-7. 20 students achieved 10 or more 9-7 grades. At A-level, 70% of grades where A*-B with the average grade achieved being a B.

Further information and an application form are available to download on the School's website, or by contacting the School on 0151 632 3449.

A completed application form and letter addressing the content of the person specification, which should be no longer than two sides of A4, should be submitted to [email protected] for the attention of Mr S. Clarke, Headteacher.

If you have any questions regarding the post, please contact the school for further information.

Closing date: Monday 23 May 2022 at 9am.

Anticipated interview date: Thursday 26 May.
