Heswall’s Linghams brings Dan Walker to the Neston Club in November
Earlier this year, Dan Walker surprised many by leaving the BBC to become the face of Channel 5, in particular as the anchorman of the station's news programmes, and more generally as the host of other 5 shows - most recently and right now, "Digging for Treasure".
Each episode comes from a different location, where an army of amateur metal detectorists use their kit and skills to scour an authorised patch of land for artefacts and items lost by people through the centuries.
Dan, first and foremost a journalist, also finds time to write books, and is on a mission to focus on people who often act as the catalysts for change: the unheralded champions who frequently go without getting the recognition they deserve.
Now he's back with a follow-up to "Remarkable People" which contains a totally fresh batch of humble heroes whose actions, bravery and determination have helped shape their communities. He says he's "determined to keep shining a light on the kindness, compassion and selflessness which continue to characterise so many people and their actions right across the country."
The new book is called "Standing on the Shoulders", and asks who are these little-known marvels and what makes them tick? What do they have in common? What can we all learn from them? Is there something special in the chain of events? What does it take to make a lasting impact on others?
Dan Walker's publisher describes the work as "a beautifully written and illuminating celebration of ordinary people and the extraordinary things they do. It is also a timely reminder of the goodness and positivity that drives us forward during challenging times."
We hope it includes a chapter about people who have worked out how to pay their gas and electricity bills.
Heswall's Linghams Booksellers continues to make sure our area is an important place for authors to promote their wares, providing a steady stream of big names from the worlds of fiction and non-fiction.
Dan will be appearing at the Neston Club in Parkgate on Wednesday 16th November at 7pm.
