Wirral residents are being encouraged to 'Stay Safe this Winter' by readying themselves for the changes in weather and wellbeing as the nights draw in.

Bringing together a range of Council priorities and responsibilities, Stay Safe this Winter will equip residents with the latest advice and guidance on for Winter readiness.

Winter is always a challenging time for local authority service and health and community organisations.

Mark Camborne, Assistant Director for Neighbourhoods, Safety and Transport at Wirral Council, said: "The colder months bring with them different challenges for individuals and local services.

"In summer we have heatwaves and increased visitors to coastal areas, in Winter we're concerned about potential flooding, heating our homes, flu and norovirus outbreaks (norovirus is known as 'the vomiting bug') and road safety due to poor weather conditions.

"And, with the added pressures of COVID-19 on top of the usual seasonal strains on local services, we want to do all we can to help keep Wirral residents safe, warm and well, throughout the season."

Over the coming months, the Council and partners will be sharing information, tips and tricks on how to prepare for these challenges, making sure residents are aware of the support that is available to them at this time of year.

Mark Camborne added: "Our highways and street scene teams, public health, emergency response and community partners are geared up to support residents and deal with many of the challenges that may face us this season.

"But it's also an opportunity for us to engage with isolated groups and signpost them to the right support options."

The campaign will cover many themes from health and wellbeing, to homelessness, heating and humanitarian concerns – to gritting and vehicle readiness.
