In the week up to December 15, Bebington had 122 infections, followed by Rock Ferry (105) and Bromborough (102).
Two more wards, Bidston and St James and Birkenhead and Tranmere, had 101 cases.
Infections at this level have not been seen since the week up to January 15, when most of the borough had more than 100 cases, with hundreds being treated for the virus in Wirral's hospitals.
The borough is of course better placed to deal with such high levels of infection now, given the vaccine rollout and the current push on 'booster' jabs.
At the moment, hospitalisation levels remain stable, with around 30 people being treated for COVID-19 in Wirral's hospitals, a number which has remained stable since October.
But the government is worried that the Omicron variant will put huge pressure on hospitals across the country and is considering moving back to Step 2 restrictions in England according to The Mirror.
This would lead to a ban on indoor mixing and a return to hospitality venues being forced to serve customers outside.
Yesterday we reported how it is possible to be jabbed before Christmas by either booking a shot or visiting a walk-in clinic without an appointment.
