Creation of new Moreton-Bidston cycle link will bring lane closures while work is done
A brand new cycle route is being built in Wirral, as the council tries to make it easier to get around the borough without driving.
The route, which Wirral Council describes as a "dedicated cycle link", is being built along Fender Lane, between Moreton and Bidston.
Lane closures will be in place while the work is carried out.
During the first phase, there will be lane closures along the eastbound carriageway of Fender Lane, from Reeds Lane to Hoylake Road, travelling towards Bidston.
In the second phase, the lane closures will affect the westbound carriageway from Reeds Lane to Hoylake Road, travelling towards Leasowe and Moreton.
While lane closures will be in place, the road will remain open to traffic throughout the project.
The scheme is part of Wirral Council's Active Travel programme.
Funded by central government, the new link is being built to make it safer and easier for cyclists to use this busy route.
The scheme also helps connect riders to existing cycle routes, including the Reeds Lane Cycle Link and the River Birket Trail, as well as the National Cycle Route 56 at the Bidston end.
The work is set to go on for 12 weeks, meaning it should be completed by the end of May.
