Station to station - please consider signing our petition for a direct train service to Liverpool

Recently we've asked if the local community can do something to save and repurpose the abandoned Heswall police station - and if the very dismal Heswall railway station could also be given a new lease of life by making it possible to travel direct between the town and Liverpool.

Thanks to everyone who responded on social media, where it became plain that a fair few people would like a direct service - and not to hang out in a station that feels like it belongs in a spooky movie about the supernatural.

Anyway, as an exercise in people power, Heswall Nub News has launched a petition to our Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram arguing that Heswall train station needs better connectivity.

It's not as daft as it sounds. The change at Bidston to get to Liverpool is required because the Borderlands line is home to diesel locomotives, while Merseyrail is electrified.

However, Merseyrail is trialling battery powered trains, and let's face it, diesel will soon be a thing of the past.

We just have to make sure we are not left behind as change takes place, and get ourselves on the agenda of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Transport for Wales (which operates the Borderlands line) and Merseyrail.

At time of writing, 242 people have already added their names to the plea by signing the petition.

If you feel like joining them, then you can do so here, and see where people power takes us.

Even if it means we go nowhere at all…

No harm in trying though - and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Thanks and all good wishes.
