From Coldplay to Christmas with John Lewis: Dougal Wilson, the one man Heswall publicity machine

Recently we've asked if Wirral in general and Heswall in particular do enough to promote themselves as destinations.
The visitor economy is important to the peninsula, and a town like ours would benefit from a few happy trippers willing to spend some of their hard earned cash on what Heswall has to offer.
So let's salute a man who, at least twice, has used his creative influence to place his hometown prominently before Britain and the world.
Dougal Wilson is a highly talented, Heswall born director of commercials and pop promos. Companies whose brands he has attempted to brand onto our imaginations include Stella Artois, Olympus and Apple.
Music artists whose sounds he has brought to visual life include Dizzee Rascal, Goldfrapp and Jarvis Cocker.
But the brand and band that concern us here are the John Lewis Partnership and Coldplay.
Dougal has been the imaginative force behind several wonderful John Lewis Christmas commercials - including one which included a fleeting image of a Heswall bound bus.
Fleeting or not, this was one of the most watched commercials of all time - surely someone said to themselves, "Heswall! If I feel this good watching a TV ad, surely I will feel even better if I follow that bus!"
Then there's the promo for the Coldplay tune 'Life in Technicolor ii'.
Funny and touching, with the band members cast as puppets, it tells the beautifully executed story of Coldplay bringing their much lauded live show to...The Heswall Village Fete.
Look and listen at the top of this page as, during a break in the Punch and Judy show, Chris Martin and co perform to universal amazement - and the disquiet of the local vicar.
OK, so the piece wasn't shot in Heswall, but who cares? Here the word 'Heswall' is far from fleeting - it is outside and inside the imaginary village hall and would have cost us a fortune had it been product placement.
Since 2009, the official video on youtube has clocked up more than 57 million views on its own.
Can we build on Dougal's fantastic work and lure visitors here?
How about a Coldplay themed bar in a bus where it's Christmas every day?
Now we're talking...
