Event of the Week - Xander and the Peace Pirates at Heswall Hall tonight

13th Aug 2021 | Local Features

Heswall Hall is open again, complete with a new reception area, sound system and lighting rig.

Which is just as well as the Hall has revealed an intriguing live music schedule which continues this evening with Liverpool based Xander and the Peace Pirates.

Much praised as an excellent live act underpinned by first rate musicianship, the Pirates' music is rooted in blues, soul and country.

They are also notable for an extraordinary lead guitar player, Keith Xander, who founded the band with his brother Stu almost 20 years ago.

Keith was born without the lower part of his right arm.

Passionate about music making he grew up wanting to play guitar, and came to realise that if he could strum a guitar with the metal 'fingers' on his prosthetic lower arm, he could also use them to grip a plectrum.

A few years ago, Keith explained everything in an engaging three minute video for the BBC, which you can see at the top of this page.

Keith seems like a top man with a good sense of humour, and he and his bandmates make music to spread a message of peace, love and harmony.

And you can't say fairer than that.

It's been great fun welcoming live shows back to Heswall Hall, and the Peace Pirates' setlist sounds just the ticket for lockdowners starved of classy musicians playing live.

So why not buy one?
