Forget the Premier League, the Champions League, the Championship and all the rest, because...

Heswall FC could be back in action pretty soon.

This follows a meeting of the West Cheshire League yesterday, held in the light of the government's roadmap out of lockdown.

It was decided by a majority of clubs, including Heswall Football Club, that the 2020-21 season should resume on Saturday 3rd April.

The season will involve each team playing the remaining teams they've not been able to play once, and an aggregate score will determine the winners in games where teams have already met twice.

Heswall FC has also been informed that Wirral District Football Association has decided to recommence cup competitions.

This gives all the Heswall teams the opportunity to challenge for silverware.

The Cheshire FA will decide on Monday evening whether to recommence their cup competitions and, if they go ahead, this means Heswall's First Team will have the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Amateur Cup.

This would mean a lot to the lads - last season they made it to the final, only for it never to take place.

The Chairman of Heswall FC, Robbie Matthews, said: "As a club we are delighted with this outcome as we are really keen to get our lads playing football again. This last 12 months has been terrible so we are keen to get going again.

"We would like to thank the West Cheshire League for a sensible outcome and for affording us clubs the opportunity to discuss the matter and raise our views and concerns.

"Fixtures will be announced in March, but our first league games back will be on April 3rd, and while we await guidance from the FA, we are hopeful we will be able to welcome supporters back to Gayton Park too.

"The season will restart with both our First Team and Reserves in a strong position to challenge for promotion from their respective divisions and, following our success in the Haworth and Gallagher Bowl earlier in the season, we are keen to make this year a successful year for the whole of Heswall FC".

Fingers crossed this all pans out. If it does, let's get down to Gayton Park and help Heswall FC go on to bigger and better things.
