Claremont Farm near Bebington will soon be hosting more cinema nights as well as musical performances after plans were approved.

The farm was given a licence to sell alcohol between 11am and 11pm and host film and music nights during the same hours by Wirral Council's Licensing Panel.

There were seven letters of representation from local residents, who had concerns regarding anti-social behaviour and public nuisance.

However, Andrew Pimbley, the applicant, said no one complained about events held last year with a temporary events notice.

Mr Pimbley added that on the cinema nights no noise would be produced as people listen to the films wearing headphones.

The applicant said as well as cinema nights, he wanted to host live bands and classical musicians, with a licence to have as many as 500 people in attendance.

A number of residents spoke at the Licensing Panel.

One such resident, Paul Gill, said he rarely had problems with the site, however there had been some issues with noise in the past.

Mr Gill said that after he spoke to Mr Pimbley about this, action was taken more or less immediately.

The verdict in favour of granting Claremont Farm a licence was given after the panel acknowledged that residents attending the meeting had no complaints regarding the events that took place last year.

The panel also took into consideration the fact that the numbers attending such events would be controlled through ticketing.

The panel, made up of three Wirral councillors, also accepted that Mr Pimbley was willing to talk to those who had concerns and had taken measures to prevent a nuisance being caused.
